WHAT?
We are having our annual end of the year Band Banquet to honor the students’ many accomplishments this year.  This year’s banquet will be catered by Sonny’s BBQ (yummy!).
WHEN?
The Band Banquet will be on May 25th in the cafeteria at LNHS at 6pm.
WHO?
All band students and their families are welcome to attend the Band Banquet.
HOW MUCH?
The cost of the Band Banquet is $10 per person.  This helps cover the cost of food, decorations, awards, etc…  Money is due by next Friday, May 18th (this is different than the first e-mail).  Students can bring in either cash or checks with checks made out to “Lake Nona High School”.
HOW CAN I HELP?
So glad you asked!  Please contact myself or Jodi Burt if you are able to volunteer to help set up and decorate for the banquet.  Jodi can be reached at jdburt@clf.rr.com.
I hope this answers some of the questions you may have.  I look forward to seeing everyone at our Spring Concert on May 17th and the Banquet on May 25th!

A couple of important items for jazz band students.
1)      Call time is 3pm.
2)      We will be wearing our 2011 show shirt (Espana) and shorts.  I prefer for students could wear a pair of khaki shorts.  Please make sure that they are of appropriate length.
3)      Performance time is 5:15-5:45 on the main stage.
4)      We will be finished by 6:30.
5)      Drink lots of water and wear some sunscreen as the weather will be in the 90’s on Saturday.
I hope to see everyone there supporting this great cause and our jazz band students!

ICEBREAKER
This year’s Icebreaker will be on May 29th @ 6pm.  This is event is for all band students and their parents.  Students will meet in the band and the parents will meet in the chorus room.  This is the first time we welcome our incoming freshman band students to the high school band program.  It is also a time in which parents can get lots of valuable information about the band program.  The Icebreaker is required for all band, percussion, and color guard students.  Please make arrangements to attend this important event.

COLOR GUARD & PERCUSSION AUDITIONS
Color guard and percussion auditions will be held on May 2, 4, 9, & 11 from 3:30-5:30 on Wednesday and 4:30-6:30 on Friday.  These auditions are open to all students regardless of prior experience.  Please help in spreading the word to any students who may be interested.

SPRING CONCERT
The Spring Concert will be on May 17th at 7pm in the auditorium.  All ensembles will be performing (Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Percussion Ensemble, & Jazz Band).  Don’t miss it!!!

GRADUATION
The Symphonic Band will be performing at the LNHS graduation ceremony on June 6th at the UCF arena.  Call time for this event will be at the end of the school day.  The ceremony begins at 3pm and we should return to the school by 6pm.

BAND TRIP
Thank you for all the feedback I have received regarding next year’s band trip.  I received very positive feedback from the online survey and will use that information as we move ahead in our planning.  At this time I am working with a school travel agency who is putting together sample itineraries and estimates for the trip.  I will use this information along with the feedback from the survey to decide the best option for us.  More information to come soon!!!

Thank you to all the parents who were able to make it out to last night’s Booster Meeting.  In the band world, the end of one school year is the beginning of the next.  The months of May and June are packed with afterschool rehearsals and performances.  Please review over the calendar and make sure that your student is present at all events.

Thank you for your continued support of the LNHS Band Program.

CONCERT MPA
I would like to start this update by saying a huge congratulations to our Symphonic Band students.  Last Thursday, the Symphonic Band performed at the District 8 Music Performance Assessment at West Orange High School.  For the third year straight, we received the highest rating of superior!  We also received our first Superior rating for sight-reading.  This is a great accomplishment for our students and a result of their hard work and dedication.  I have a recording of the performance available for the students.  Please bring in a blank CD if you would like a recording.

STATE S&E
State S&E is quickly approaching.  Students who qualified for State S&E will be performing on April 3rd at Buchholz High School in Gainesville, FL.  You can click here to find directions to the school: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Buchholz+High+School,+Gainesville,+FL&hl=en&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=43.664131,101.513672&oq=Buchholz+High+School&hq=Buchholz+High+School,+Gainesville,+FL&t=m&z=15

Mr. Atwell will be at Lake Nona Friday at 9am to rehearse with the students.  Please let me know if you have any questions regarding State S&E.

BAND TRUCK
We have a band truck!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yesterday morning, Dr. Anderson was able to secure an OCPS box truck for the LNHS band program.  The truck  comes equipped with a lift gate!  This is a great addition to our band program and will help us save lots of money during marching season.  Please send Dr. Anderson a thank you for his continued support of the band program.

I hope everybody has a wonderful and restful Spring Break!
